711 jili OTTAWA — Pat King, one of the most prominent figures of the 2022 "Freedom Convoy" in Ottawa, has been found guilty on five counts including mischief and disobeying a court order. A judge in an Ottawa courtroom Friday said the Crown proved beyond a reasonable doubt that King was guilty on one count each of mischief, counselling others to commit mischief and counselling others to obstruct police. He was also found guilty of two counts of disobeying a court order. The Alberta resident was found not guilty on three counts of intimidation and one count of obstructing police himself. King could be facing up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set yet, and the defence still needs to make a decision on whether or not to file an appeal. In January 2022 the convoy attracted thousands of demonstrators to Parliament Hill in protest against public-health restrictions, COVID-19 vaccine mandates and the federal government. The event gridlocked downtown streets around Parliament Hill, with area residents complaining about the fumes from diesel engines running non-stop, and unrelenting noise from constant honking of horns and music parties. The federal Liberal government ultimately invoked the Emergencies Act to try and bring an end to the protests, which had expanded to also block several border crossings into the United States. Ottawa Police brought in hundreds of officers from police forces across Canada to force the protest to an end. King's defence argued that King was peacefully protesting during the three-week demonstration and was not a leader of it. But the Crown alleged he was a protest leader who was instrumental to the disruption the protest caused the city and people who lived and worked nearby. The Crown alleged King co-ordinated the honking, ordering protestors to lay on the horn every 30 minutes for 10 minutes at a time and told people to "hold the line" when he was aware policy and the city had asked the protesters to leave. The Crown's case relied mainly on King's own videos, which he posted to social media throughout the protest to document the demonstration and communicate with protesters. The court proceedings paused for about 10 minutes when King requested a short "health break" after the first verdicts on the mischief charges were read. Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland described the honking as "malicious conduct" intended to disrupt residents, workers, businesses and others from lawfully enjoying downtown Ottawa. Hackland also said that the videos show King was seen in and accepted the leadership role. He pointed to a quote from King finding it "hilarious" that residents could not sleep for 10 days as "gleefully" aiding and abetting mischief. This evidence also played a role in determining King's guilt in disobeying a court order and counselling others to do the same. These charges relate to the original Feb. 7, 2022 injunction against using air and train horns in downtown Ottawa, launched by residents. The city successfully filed a similar injunction days later. As for counselling others to obstruct police, Hackland found King's call to "hold the line" was telling people not to move from the protest site despite police orders. The judge said that phrase can be seen as a greeting between supporters of the convoy protest, but said there was no other logical interpretation in the context of King's videos. In the days before a multi-day police removal operation began, King called on people to link arms and sit down with their backs to police if officers tried to move them. On the intimidation charges, Hackland said that a consistent theme of King's videos were calls to remain peaceful and non-violent. He said that the target was always the federal government and COVID-19 policies, and specific individuals were not targeted by or through King's actions. As for an intimidation charge related to blocking highways, Hackland said that finding guilt in this instance would be an "overly broad" interpretation of the Criminal Code as the blockade was done as part of a political protest, which is protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. His trial was heard over several weeks between May and July. This story by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 22, 2024. David Baxter, The Canadian PressThe death toll from Cyclone Chido , an intense tropical cyclone that made landfall in northern Mozambique, has risen to 120, with 868 people injured and more than 680,000 affected, according to the latest figures released by Mozambique's national disaster relief agency on Monday. Northern provinces of Mozambique, including Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa, have suffered extensive damage from heavy downpours, storms and flooding caused by Cyclone Chido, according to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD). Over 150,000 homes have been destroyed or partially damaged, along with 250 schools, 89 public buildings and 52 health facilities. Nearly 110,000 students have been affected, the INGD update showed. In response to the displacement, the government has set up two emergency shelters, which are currently housing 1,349 people. In a social media post on Sunday, the INGD emphasized the severe impact of Cyclone Chido on the education and health sectors. "Cyclone Chido once again highlights the vulnerability of social infrastructure to climate change and the need for resilient planning to mitigate future impacts," the post read. Cyclone Chido formed over the southwestern Indian Ocean on December 5. After devastating Mayotte, a French overseas territory, it made landfall in Mozambique on December 15, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Marriages between first cousins could be banned in UK under new proposal

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump said he can't guarantee that his promised tariffs on key U.S. foreign trade partners won't raise prices for American consumers and he suggested once more that some political rivals and federal officials who pursued legal cases against him should be imprisoned. The president-elect, in a wide-ranging interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" that aired Sunday, also touched on monetary policy, immigration, abortion and health care, and U.S. involvement in Ukraine, Israel and elsewhere. Trump often mixed declarative statements with caveats, at one point cautioning "things do change." A look at some of the issues covered: Trump hems on whether trade penalties could raise prices Trump has threatened broad trade penalties, but said he didn't believe economists' predictions that added costs on those imported goods for American companies would lead to higher prices for U.S. consumers. He stopped short of a pledge that U.S. households won't be paying more as they shop. "I can't guarantee anything. I can't guarantee tomorrow," Trump said, seeming to open the door to accepting the reality of how import levies typically work as goods reach the retail market. That's a different approach from Trump's typical speeches throughout the 2024 campaign, when he framed his election as a sure way to curb inflation. In the interview, Trump defended tariffs generally, saying they are "going to make us rich." He has pledged that, on his first day in office in January, he would impose 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada unless those countries satisfactorily stop illegal immigration and the flow of illegal drugs such as fentanyl into the United States. He also has threatened additional tariffs on China to help force that country to crack down on fentanyl production. "All I want to do is I want to have a level, fast, but fair playing field," Trump said. Trump suggests retribution for his opponents while claiming no interest in vengeance He offered conflicting statements on how he would approach the justice system after winning election despite being convicted of 34 felonies in a New York state court and being indicted in other cases for his handling of national security secrets and efforts to overturn his 2020 loss to Democrat Joe Biden. "Honestly, they should go to jail," Trump said of members of Congress who investigated the Capitol riot by his supporters who wanted him to remain in power. The president-elect underscored his contention that he can use the justice system against others, including special prosecutor Jack Smith, who led the case on Trump's role in the siege on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump confirmed his plan to pardon supporters who were convicted for their roles in the riot, saying he would take that action on his first day in office. As for the idea of revenge driving potential prosecutions, Trump said: "I have the absolute right. I'm the chief law enforcement officer, you do know that. I'm the president. But I'm not interested in that." At the same time, Trump singled out lawmakers on a special House committee who had investigated the insurrection, citing Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo. "Cheney was behind it ... so was Bennie Thompson and everybody on that committee," Trump said. Asked specifically whether he would direct his administration to pursue cases, he said, "No," and suggested he did not expect the FBI to quickly undertake investigations into his political enemies. But at another point, Trump said he would leave the matter up to Pam Bondi, his pick as attorney general. "I want her to do what she wants to do," he said. Such threats, regardless of Trump's inconsistencies, have been taken seriously enough by many top Democrats that Biden is considering issuing blanket, preemptive pardons to protect key members of his outgoing administration. Trump did seemingly back off his campaign rhetoric calling for Biden to be investigated, saying, "I'm not looking to go back into the past." Swift action on immigration is coming Trump repeatedly mentioned his promises to seal the U.S.-Mexico border and deport millions of people who are in the U.S. illegally through a mass deportation program. "I think you have to do it," he said. He suggested he would try to use executive action to end "birthright" citizenship under which people born in the U.S. are considered citizens — although such protections are spelled out in the Constitution. Asked specifically about the future for people who were brought into the country illegally as children and have been shielded from deportation in recent years, Trump said, "I want to work something out," indicating he might seek a solution with Congress. But Trump also said he does not "want to be breaking up families" of mixed legal status, "so the only way you don't break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back." Trump commits to NATO, with conditions, and waffles on Putin and Ukraine Long a critic of NATO members for not spending more on their own defense, Trump said he "absolutely" would remain in the alliance "if they pay their bills." Pressed on whether he would withdraw if he were dissatisfied with allies' commitments, Trump said he wants the U.S. treated "fairly" on trade and defense. He waffled on a NATO priority of containing Russia and President Vladimir Putin. Trump suggested Ukraine should prepare for less U.S. aid in its defense against Putin's invasion. "Possibly. Yeah, probably. Sure," Trump said of reducing Ukraine assistance from Washington. Separately, Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire. Asked about Putin, Trump said initially that he has not talked to the Russian leader since Election Day last month, but then hedged: "I haven't spoken to him recently." Trump said when pressed, adding that he did not want to "impede the negotiation." Trump says Powell is safe at the Fed, but not Wray at the FBI The president-elect said he has no intention, at least for now, of asking Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to step down before Powell's term ends in 2028. Trump said during the campaign that presidents should have more say in Fed policy, including interest rates. Trump did not offer any job assurances for FBI Director Christopher Wray, whose term is to end in 2027. Asked about Wray, Trump said: "Well, I mean, it would sort of seem pretty obvious" that if the Senate confirms Kash Patel as his pick for FBI chief, then "he's going to be taking somebody's place, right? Somebody is the man that you're talking about." Trump is absolute about Social Security, not so much on abortion and health insurance Trump promised that the government efficiency effort led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will not threaten Social Security. "We're not touching Social Security, other than we make it more efficient," he said. He added that "we're not raising ages or any of that stuff." He was not so specific about abortion or his long-promised overhaul of the Affordable Care Act. On abortion, Trump continued his inconsistencies and said he would "probably" not move to restrict access to the abortion pills that now account for a majority of pregnancy terminations, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights. But pressed on whether he would commit to that position, Trump replied, "Well, I commit. I mean, are -- things do -- things change. I think they change." Reprising a line from his Sept. 10 debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump again said he had "concepts" of a plan to substitute for the 2010 Affordable Care Act, which he called "lousy health care." He added a promise that any Trump version would maintain insurance protections for Americans with preexisting health conditions. He did not explain how such a design would be different from the status quo or how he could deliver on his desire for "better health care for less money."Regrets? Candace Cameron Bure is looking forward to shooting “another four to five movies” with Great American Family in 2025, but her road to happiness with the network hasn’t been easy. “It certainly is difficult when talking to media outlets,” Cameron Bure, 48, confessed to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, December 25. “While we are grateful for media outlets that point people to our channels, there’s still always a risk because the answers can be written out of context .” The actress noted that her past comments about Great American Family — which is a channel under the Great American Media banner — focusing on “traditional marriage” as opposed to Hallmark Channel’s more inclusive story lines (including same sex couples, etc.) was a bump in the road. “That certainly happened to me when moving over to Great American Family, and it was a really hard time,” Cameron Bure recalled. “And to be misunderstood in that way was difficult.” The Full House alum made headlines in April 2022 when she announced that she was leaving Hallmark Media after 13 years to work exclusively with Great American Media. The move reunited Cameron Bure with Hallmark’s former CEO, Bill Abbott , who raised eyebrows before his own departure from the network when he removed an ad featuring a same-sex couple from the channel. In November 2022, Cameron Bure explained her reason for switching networks after previously being the face of Hallmark’s holiday coverage and being dubbed the “Queen of Christmas.” She told The Wall Street Journal ’s WSJ. Magazine at the time, “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them.” She claimed that Hallmark was a “completely different network than when I started” and she was excited to work with Great American Family due to its desire to “promote faith programming and good family entertainment.” Cameron Bure added, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.” The comment caused outrage among fans and celebrities alike with some people calling Cameron Bure a “ bigot .” Cameron Bure — who has now produced several movies for Great American Family under her Candy Rock Entertainment production company banner — shared a message of sadness at the time over the backlash she received. “All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people,” she began in a lengthy statement shared via Instagram in November 2022. “It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone. It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.” She noted that she is a “devoted Christian” who said she is “called to love all people.” Cameron Bure concluded: “To everyone reading this, of any race, creed, sexuality, or political party, including those who have tried to bully me with name-calling, I love you.” Two years later, Cameron Bure said that Great American Family is still trying to get their footing in the media realm and working toward its faith-focused content. “We are a relatively new channel. This is only our fourth year in Christmas,” she told THR . “Like any new business, you have your core demographic and what you’re looking for, and you’re going to produce the product that will best suit that audience.” The Fuller House alum continued: “Most networks are not trying to be all things to all people. What really differentiates our channel from some of the other ones out there is that we’re not afraid to talk about God and God’s hand in our lives instead of fate or providence.” Cameron Bure pointed out that Great American Family leans into “faith in our movies” that align with their tagline for the channel which is: “ Christmas as it’s meant to be .” You have successfully subscribed. God loves all of us, and so that’s the spirit in which I make everything,” she concluded.

According to the report, the occupants were heading to Provo, Utah for a college basketball game and intended to return to the Valley the same night. After fueling the plane, Air Traffic Control cleared the pilot for the flight. Security video showed the plane accelerating on the runway until about 3,000 feet before it began to descend, the plane later "struck the airport perimeter fence located about 600 ft beyond the departure end of the runway before it continues across a roadway." "The data showed that during takeoff, the airplane had accelerated to about 130 knots before it began to decelerate. No engine anomalies were noticed in the data," said the report. Aerial footage showed the plane on fire and at least one damaged vehicle that was involved. Preliminary reports do not typically offer a detailed explanation of what exactly caused a plane to crash, just additional details on the incident. Mesa police released the names of four people on the plane that died in the crash . They were identified as 43-year-old Spencer Lindahl, 48-year-old Rustin Randall, 44-year-old Drew Kimball, and 12-year-old Graham Kimball. ABC15 spoke to the family of the driver killed, Ray Longhi, in the days after the crash. Sharps technology CEO Robert Hayes acquires $10,072 in stockRUBEN AMORIM doubts Mikel Arteta would have been given the same time to succeed at Manchester United that he has received at Arsenal. Arteta won the 2020 FA Cup in his first season in charge but the Spaniard, who celebrates his FIFTH anniversary as Gunners boss this month, has yet to bring in any further trophies to the Emirates. No United manager has lasted more than three years at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. New Red Devils chief Amorim , who takes United to second-placed Arsenal on Wednesday, said: “It is always important for a coach to have that confidence, but we have to acknowledge that Manchester United is a little bit different. “All the attention that you guys put in here, all the time. So I know that sometimes it is not possible to have all that time. “So we will try to manage that and try to do things a little bit faster knowing that here is massive attention and massive judgment every day.” READ MORE IN FOOTBALL Amorim is full of praise for the job Arteta has done during his tenure at the Gunners. Arteta took over in December 2019 but had highs and lows, including losing six out of 11 games to dop out of the Champions League spots to arch-rivals Tottenham. Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag, says he hopes to have the same presence of mind as Arteta in the tough times at Old Trafford. He said: “He’s done an amazing job. Sometimes coaches are just judged about the titles, but what he has been doing in Arsenal, I think is amazing. It transformed the team. Most read in Football FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS “He bought some youngsters that now are the big talents in this country. “I hope to have the same mindset that he had in the difficult moments because I followed the Premier League for a long time. “It’s a very good characteristic in Mikel, so I think he did a great job.” United left-back Luke Shaw will not be facing Arsenal after issuing an emotional statement last night revealing a new muscular injury. The England defender, 29, has had horrid luck with fitness problems since February. He missed the final three months of last season with a calf issue but played for England in the latter stages of the Euros. He then suffered a recurrence in pre-season but returned for three appearances under new boss Amorim before his latest setback. Heartbroken Shaw, who is expected to be out for several weeks, posted on Instagram: “It’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles but unfortunately I’ve had a setback. “This has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment. READ MORE SUN STORIES “I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed. No one is feeling that more than me. “But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.” RUBEN AMORIM celebrated his first Premier League game at Old Trafford with a stunning 4-0 victory over Everton. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee shook off questions over their recent form with two each at a thrilled Old Trafford - as the Red Devils won a Prem game by four goals or more since the opening day of the 2021-22 season. Here's how SunSport's Ken Lawrence rated the Red Devils... ANDRE ONANA - 6 Called into action early and showed growing his growing composure as No 1. NOUSSAIR MAZROUI - 6 Has rapidly become one of the United faithful’s favourites doing himself no harm again. MATTHIJS DE LIGT - 6 Stretched at first by bustling Beto but beginning to look like he’s settling down in a back three. LISANDRO MARTINEZ - 6 Once again looking like the master and commander of the United rearguard. AMAD DIALLO - 8 Went from wasteful to the plundering terror of centre backs Branthwaite and Tarkowski. KOBBIE MAINOO - 6 Quiet, calm, controlled, no panic, no loss of possession, no problem for the midfielder. CASEMIRO - 5 Looked like his lack of pace might be a problem again in central midfield but ground it out. DIOGO DALOT - 6 Enjoying life in his new left-side forward role and didn’t really put a foot wrong. JOSHUA ZIRKZEE - 8 Transformed himself from headless chicken to tripling his whole United tally with two clinical strikes. MARCUS RASHFORD - 9 Ruben Amorim has gone out of his way to big up the front man and he’s responding in style. BRUNO FERNANDES - 6 Wasteful for a while but got his head down to have a real influence by the end. SUBS LUKE SHAW (Mazraoui 56) - 5 Comfortably easing himself back. HARRY MAGUIRE (de Ligt 56) - 5 Looked happy to be out there. ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (Fernandes 66) - 5 Got bustling off the bench. MANUEL UGARTE (Casemiro 66) - 5 Will be wanting more minutes than this. Across the globe, the ultra-luxury real estate sector slowed to a crawl in the third quarter pending the results of the U.S. presidential election. According to a new report published by the London -based real estate brokerage and consultancy Knight Frank, wealthy buyers hit pause on their trophy home searches in the three months leading up to September 2024, resulting in a steep decrease in super-prime residential sales around the world. In the 12 markets analyzed, there were 406 sales in the $10 million-plus category, an 18 percent dip in volume, as well as a 17 percent drop in value compared to the previous quarter. “The uncertainty surrounding the U.S. election seemingly cast a shadow over our five American markets, with none reporting an increase in sales last quarter,” the report said. Take Florida, for example. Palm Beach recorded its lowest sales numbers since the end of 2022 with only 16 super-prime deals in Q3. At the same time, Miami clocked 23 trophy sales, a staggering 60 percent decline compared to the same period last year. Elsewhere, Dubai , one of the most active markets in terms of ultra-luxury sales, logged a 40 percent plummet in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2023. Interestingly, London was the only market in the 12 cities to actually experience a rise in $10 million-plus sales, jumping from 47 deals in Q2 to 51 in Q3, which the report chalked up to the “new Labor government’s budget.” Despite the increase, the British capital is still behind its pre-pandemic high when it averaged a whopping $1.5 billion per quarter. Still, as a result of the political and economic uncertainty in the U.S., there’s been an substantial uptick in the number of Americans making plans to move abroad. According to a survey by Arton Capital, more than half of U.S. millionaires said they were likely to leave the country after the election, regardless of the winner, while 64 percent of the wealthy younger people, those between ages of 18 and 29, admitted to seeking golden visas by investing overseas. “The love affair between Americans and Europe has been going on for very long time,” Armand Arton of Arton Capital told CNBC. “It comes with a price, and they are totally fine investing couple hundred thousand dollars or a half million into a property or a fund.”

Higher intakes of artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are positively associated with developing chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to a study published online Nov. 25 in Frontiers in Nutrition . Xiao-Yu Dai, from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Mianyang, and colleagues examined the associations of SSBs, ASBs, and natural juices with CKD risk. The analysis included 191,956 participants from the UK Biobank followed for a median 10.6 years. The researchers found that higher consumption of SSBs and ASBs (>1 unit/day versus none) was associated with an elevated risk for CKD (SSB: hazard ratio [HR], 1.45; ASB: HR, 1.52). There was a J-shaped association between natural juices and CKD, with the lowest risk at 0 to 1 unit/day (0 to 1 unit/day versus none: HR, 0.86). For higher intakes of SSBs and ASBs with CKD, the association was mediated by metabolic syndrome by 12.5 and 18.0 percent, respectively. "Although the causal relationship cannot be established, our results emphasize the critical importance of limiting the consumption of SSBs or ASBs for CKD prevention," the authors write. "Further research is needed to confirm our findings and explore the optimal intake level for the natural juices." Nearly 100 former senior U.S. diplomats and intelligence and national security officials have urged Senate leaders to schedule closed-door hearings to allow for a full review of the government's files on former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard , Donald Trump's pick to be national intelligence director. The former officials, who served in both Democratic and Republican administrations, said they were "alarmed" by the choice of Gabbard to oversee all 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. They said her past actions "call into question her ability to deliver unbiased intelligence briefings to the President, Congress, and to the entire national security apparatus." A spokesperson for Gabbard on the Trump transition team on Thursday denounced the appeal as an "unfounded" and "partisan" attack. Among those who signed the letter were former Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, former NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, former national security adviser Anthony Lake, and numerous retired ambassadors and high-ranking military officers. They wrote to current Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and incoming Republican Majority Leader John Thune on Wednesday to urge the closed briefings as part of the Senate's review of Trump's top appointments. They urged that Senate committees "consider in closed sessions all information available to the U.S. government when considering Ms. Gabbard's qualifications to manage our country's intelligence agencies, and more importantly, the protection of our intelligence sources and methods." The letter singles out Gabbard's 2017 meetings in Syria with President Bashar Assad, who is supported by Russian, Iranian and Iranian-allied forces in a now 13-year war against Syrian opposition forces seeking his overthrow. The U.S., which cut relations with Assad's government and imposed sanctions over his conduct of the war, maintains about 900 troops in opposition-controlled northeast Syria, saying they are needed to block a resurgence of extremist groups. Gabbard, a Democratic member of Congress from Hawaii at the time of her Syria trip, drew heavy criticism for her meetings with a U.S. adversary and brutal leader. As the letter notes, her statements on the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine have aligned with Russian talking points, diverging from U.S. positions and policy. Gabbard, throughout her political career, has urged the U.S. to limit military engagement abroad other than combatting Islamic extremist groups. She has defended the Syria trip by saying it is necessary to engage with U.S. enemies. In postings on social media earlier this year, she confirmed that the U.S. had for a time placed her "on a secret terror watch list" as a "potential domestic terror threat." She blamed political retaliation. Neither she nor U.S. authorities have publicly detailed the circumstances involved. Alexa Henning, a spokesperson for Gabbard with the Trump team, called the letter sent to the Senate leaders "a perfect example" of why Trump chose Gabbard for this position. "These unfounded attacks are from the same geniuses who have blood on their hands from decades of faulty 'intelligence,'" and use classified government information as a "partisan weapon to smear and imply things about their political enemy," Henning said. A spokesperson for Thune did not immediately respond to questions about the request.Judge weighs whether to order Fani Willis to comply with lawmakers’ subpoenas over Trump caseMiss Rev is quite beside herself. The Texas A&M College of Architecture made a life-size 3D printed model of the mascot Reveille X that is now on tour at various places in Aggieland. It is currently on display in the rotunda at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum through Dec. 2. “It’s a great location for people to come. The rotunda’s free and we get a lot of traffic this time of year,” said Amy Raines, the museum’s marketing and communications director. “She’s going to be here during the first time that we play the University of Texas in 13 years. It’s going to be a huge week next week.” The library and museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day but open all other days. “We would love all of the game traffic to be able to come over here and visit her and see her,” Raines said. According to Kelsy Hustead, director of marketing and communications for the College of Architecture, the idea to make a model of Miss Rev came out of a brainstorming session about ways to demonstrate the capabilities of the college’s Innovation Hubs. “When we were brainstorming how to showcase the amazing work of our College of Architecture Innovation Hubs, we thought, 'Why not Reveille? She’s the Queen of Aggieland!’” Hustead said. “In collaboration with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, this 3D printed Reveille is a testament to the ingenuity of our MarComm team, our Innovation Hub team members, and the power of this technology. It’s been a fantastic way to engage the Aggie community and demonstrate the endless possibilities of 3D printing.” Along with the model there is a two-minute video showing the process of making the 3D Reveille. It is also available on YouTube. Langford Innovation Hub Supervisor Alex Nipper oversaw the project and did a lot of the work himself. “This was a really fun project for us and the outcomes have exceeded all of our expectations,” he said. “It was great to collaborate with those from the Corps of Cadets and I hope we can continue to collaborate with them and other university and city entities in the future.” The project began last spring when Reveille X was brought in to be scanned. Her handler brought her into the scanning room where she was photographed by 66 DSLR cameras. “We baited her with cheese. She didn’t want to be in the room,” said Sarah Wilson, marketing/ communications manager for the College of Architecture. According to Nipper, the model stands about 31 inches tall, weighs just over 20 pounds, and took 9.5 kilograms (almost 21 pounds) of PLA (Polylactic Acid plastic) filament to print. A digital 3D scan of Miss Rev was taken to the ILSQ Innovation Hub and printed using the BigRep ONE printer. It took 69 hours to complete. Nipper then hand-painted the model. “The painting process took about a week, maybe two weeks, but it was mostly time spent letting the paint dry completely before layering on another coat of paint,” he said. “The actual painting time is approximately four or five days. I used about nine different colors of paint on the model; she has a lot of different colors in her fur that I really had to narrow down to the most essential ones. I think I got it pretty close, but we had the real Reveille meet the 3D printed model after painting and her actual coat was slightly darker than the paint I chose for her.” A football field pedestal was made at the RELLIS Innovation Hub to display the model. The video shows Reveille X returning to meet her lookalike for photographs, but the meeting wasn’t as amicable as it looked. “She came back and met her own twin," Wilson said. "She was not interested in her own twin.” The 3D Miss Rev has been on tour around campus and the community. When it leaves the Bush museum it will head to public libraries. It will be at Bryan’s Clara B. Mounce Library from Dec. 9-16 and then the Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station from Dec. 16 to Jan. 2. The primary reason for making the 3D Reveille is to demonstrate the creative capabilities of the Innovation Hubs and Makerspace in the College of Architecture. The 3D printers and laser cutters are available to students, faculty and staff at Texas A&M. Pricing varies depending on the project. By HALELUYA HADERO, Associated Press Workers at seven Amazon facilities went on strike Thursday, an effort by the Teamsters union to pressure the e-commerce company for a labor agreement during a key shopping period. The Teamsters said the workers, who voted to authorize strikes in recent days, joined picket lines after Amazon ignored a Sunday deadline the union set for contract negotiations. The union called it the largest strike against the company in U.S. history, although Amazon said it did not expect the labor action to impact its operations. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters claims it represents nearly 10,000 workers at 10 Amazon facilities, a small portion of the 800,000 workers employed in the company’s U.S. warehouses. The union hasn’t said how many workers would participate in the strike or how long the walkout would last. “Amazon is pushing its workers closer to the picket line by failing to show them the respect they have earned,” Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien said in a statement. The strikes happening Thursday are taking place at seven delivery stations, which are run by contractors who drop off of packages to customers everyday. They include three locations in Southern California, and one each in New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Skokie, Illinois, according to the union’s announcement. The biggest warehouse affiliated with the Teamsters is located in the New York City borough of Staten Island. In 2022, thousands of workers at the warehouse, known as JFK8, voted to be represented by the nascent Amazon Labor Union. Workers then choose to affiliate with the Teamsters this past summer. The National Labor Relations Board certified that election to unionize, but Amazon has refused to bargain on a contract. In the process, the company has filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the labor board. At the other six facilities, employees – including many delivery drivers – unionized with the Teamsters by demonstrating majority support but without holding government-administered elections. Under labor law, companies can recognize unions without elections being held, but the practice is rare, said John Logan, director of labor and employment studies at San Francisco State University. Amazon workers in more locations are “prepared to join” the fight, the Teamsters said, noting that employees at the Staten Island warehouse and at a company air hub in California also have authorized strikes. When asked about the strike Thursday, Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said: “What you see here are almost entirely outsiders, not Amazon employees or partners, and the suggestion otherwise is just another lie from the Teamsters.” “The truth is that they were unable to get enough support from our employees and partners and have brought in outsiders to come and harass and intimidate our team, which is inappropriate and dangerous,” Nantel said. Amazon has said it does not consider delivery drivers like the ones on strike to be its employees. Under the company’s business model, the drivers work for third-party businesses, called Delivery Service Partners, who deliver millions of packages daily. Amazon has accused the union, which says it represents some of the drivers, of “intentionally” misleading the public. “This is another attempt to push a false narrative,” Nantel said. But the Teamsters have argued Amazon essentially controls everything the drivers do and should be classified as an employer. Some U.S. labor regulators have sided with the union in filings made before the NLRB. In September, Amazon boosted pay for the drivers amid the growing pressure. Shares of Amazon.com Inc. rose more than 2.4% by midday Thursday. Extra News Alerts Get breaking updates as they happen. Be civil. Be kind.

MSI has two new versions of the MSI Claw after the original landed with a thud earlier this year. The company’s $900 MSI Claw 8 AI+ and $800 Claw 7 AI+ have Lunar Lake Intel processing , better battery life and quality-of-life improvements like redesigned sticks, bumpers and triggers. The previous model launched “a touch late and a bit too pricey,” according to Engadget’s Sam Rutherford in our review . He said its performance was underwhelming compared to cheaper rivals , its software was too clunky, and it was plagued by an overabundance of optimization updates (presumably because MSI scrambled to fix its long list of problems). We haven’t handled the new models, but their switch to Intel’s latest Core Ultra 7 processor should lead to better performance and lower power consumption — two of the biggest marks against the A1M. The Claw 8 AI+ has an 8-inch (1,920 x 1,200) display, and the Claw 7 AI+ has a 7-inch (1,920 x 1,080) one. Both devices support a 120Hz refresh rate. However, they’re LCD panels; you still won’t find an OLED option here, like in Valve and Lenovo’s alternatives. It... floats, too? (MSI) The Claw 8 has an 80Wh battery, while the 7-inch model has a 54.5Wh battery. It uses MSI’s Cooler Boost HyperFlow tech, which includes dual fans and heat pipes. The company claims it outperforms “competitors” (without stating which) when running at a power-efficient 17W. Each handheld has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports , so you could plug the handheld into a monitor and use it as a makeshift Windows PC. They even have CoPilot+ support built-in. MSI redesigned the new generation’s joysticks, bumpers, D-pad and triggers for this generation. Although the last model had Hall effect sticks, the new ones also have it in their triggers. Ergonomics were a rare highlight in the previous model, and MSI touts the new handhelds as being “tailored to fit the natural contours of the hand.” As for the AI in the handheld’s branding, MSI presumably refers to the XeSS upscaling tech in the Intel chip. However, the previous model also used XeSS, so maybe the company just wanted to scream to customers and investors that it uses AI. The new handhelds arrive on December 25. GameRant notes that their pre-order pages are listed without available stock (yet). Regardless, once you can buy them, the Claw 7 AI+ costs $800, and the Claw 8 AI+ will set you back $900. MSI MSI Claw 7 AI+ $800 MSI’s updated Claw handheld promises better performance and battery life. $800 at AmazonWhile the Nifty ended the week with a 1.6% gain, over Rs 8,228 crore worth of block deals were executed across large, mid, and small-cap stocks, marking significant market activity, which included both buying and selling action. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Zac Alley is being reunited with Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia. Rodriguez, who was hired for his second stint as West Virginia's coach on Dec. 12, announced Sunday that he hired the 31-year-old Alley as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. “Zac is one of the top young defensive coordinators in the country and has proven his ability to lead and be an innovator at different stops during his career,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “I have worked with him several seasons, and he constantly impresses me with his ability to blend schemes with his personnel and develop winning results.” Under Rodriguez, Alley spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Jacksonville State. Alley was the youngest defensive coordinator in the Bowl Subdivision at Louisiana-Monroe in 2021 when Rodriguez was the Warhawks’ offensive coordinator. In Alley’s lone season at Oklahoma, the Sooners ranked fifth in the Southeastern Conference in total defense, allowing 318 yards per game. “I have tremendous respect for Coach Rod, as I’ve seen how he develops players and builds a program,” Alley said. “I look forward to working with the players and doing my part to help WVU be one of the top teams in the Big 12 Conference and the nation.” Alley worked under Oklahoma coach Brent Venables as a graduate assistant at Clemson from 2015 to 2018 when Venables was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach there. AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-footballA federal appeals court panel on Friday unanimously upheld a law that could lead to a ban on TikTok in a few short months, handing a resounding defeat to the popular social media platform as it fights for its survival in the U.S. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied TikTok's petition to overturn the law — which requires TikTok to break ties with its China-based parent company ByteDance or be banned by mid-January — and rebuffed the company's challenge of the statute, which it argued had ran afoul of the First Amendment. “The First Amendment exists to protect free speech in the United States,” said the court's opinion, which was written by Judge Douglas Ginsburg. “Here the Government acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation and to limit that adversary’s ability to gather data on people in the United States.” TikTok and ByteDance — another plaintiff in the lawsuit — are expected to appeal to the Supreme Court, though its unclear whether the court will take up the case. “The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting ans’ right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue," TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the TikTok ban was conceived and pushed through based upon inaccurate, flawed and hypothetical information, resulting in outright censorship of the American people,” Hughes said. Unless stopped, he argued the statute “will silence the voices of over 170 million Americans here in the US and around the world on January 19th, 2025.” Though the case is squarely in the court system, it's also possible the two companies might be thrown some sort of a lifeline by President-elect Donald Trump, who tried to ban TikTok during his first term but said during the presidential campaign that he is now against such action . The law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, was the culmination of a yearslong saga in Washington over the short-form video-sharing app, which the government sees as a national security threat due to its connections to China. “Today’s decision is an important step in blocking the Chinese government from weaponizing TikTok to collect sensitive information about millions of Americans, to covertly manipulate the content delivered to American audiences, and to undermine our national security,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement Friday. The U.S. has said it’s concerned about TikTok collecting vast swaths of user data, including sensitive information on viewing habits , that could fall into the hands of the Chinese government through coercion. Officials have also warned the proprietary algorithm that fuels what users see on the app is vulnerable to manipulation by Chinese authorities, who can use it to shape content on the platform in a way that’s difficult to detect. The European Union on Friday expressed similar concerns as it investigates intelligence that suggests Russia possibly abused the platform to influence the elections in Romania. TikTok, which sued the government over the law in May, has long denied it could be used by Beijing to spy on or manipulate Americans. Its attorneys have accurately pointed out that the U.S. hasn’t provided evidence to show that the company handed over user data to the Chinese government, or manipulated content for Beijing’s benefit in the U.S. They have also argued the law is predicated on future risks, which the Department of Justice has emphasized pointing in part to unspecified action it claims the two companies have taken in the past due to demands from the Chinese government. Friday’s ruling came after the appeals court panel, composed of two Republicans and one Democrat appointed judges, heard oral arguments in September. In the hearing, which lasted more than two hours, the panel appeared to grapple with how TikTok’s foreign ownership affects its rights under the Constitution and how far the government could go to curtail potential influence from abroad on a foreign-owned platform. On Friday, all three denied TikTok’s petition. In the court's ruling, Ginsburg, a Republican appointee, rejected TikTok's main legal arguments against the law, including that the statute was an unlawful bill of attainder, or a taking of property in violation of the Fifth Amendment. He also said the law did not violate the First Amendment because the government is not looking to "suppress content or require a certain mix of content” on TikTok. “Content on the platform could in principle remain unchanged after divestiture, and people in the United States would remain free to read and share as much PRC propaganda (or any other content) as they desire on TikTok or any other platform of their choosing,” Ginsburg wrote, using the abbreviation for the People’s Republic of China. Judge Sri Srinivasan, the chief judge on the court, issued a concurring opinion. TikTok’s lawsuit was consolidated with a second legal challenge brought by several content creators — for which the company is covering legal costs — as well as a third one filed on behalf of conservative creators who work with a nonprofit called BASED Politics Inc. Other organizations, including the Knight First Amendment Institute, had also filed amicus briefs supporting TikTok. “This is a deeply misguided ruling that reads important First Amendment precedents too narrowly and gives the government sweeping power to restrict Americans’ access to information, ideas, and media from abroad,” said Jameel Jaffer, the executive director of the organization. “We hope that the appeals court’s ruling won’t be the last word.” Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, lawmakers who had pushed for the legislation celebrated the court's ruling. "I am optimistic that President Trump will facilitate an American takeover of TikTok to allow its continued use in the United States and I look forward to welcoming the app in America under new ownership,” said Republican Rep. John Moolenaar of Michigan, chairman of the House Select Committee on China. Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who co-authored the law, said “it's time for ByteDance to accept” the law. To assuage concerns about the company’s owners, TikTok says it has invested more than $2 billion to bolster protections around U.S. user data. The company has also argued the government’s broader concerns could have been resolved in a draft agreement it provided the Biden administration more than two years ago during talks between the two sides. It has blamed the government for walking away from further negotiations on the agreement, which the Justice Department argues is insufficient. Attorneys for the two companies have claimed it’s impossible to divest the platform commercially and technologically. They also say any sale of TikTok without the coveted algorithm — the platform’s secret sauce that Chinese authorities would likely block under any divesture plan — would turn the U.S. version of TikTok into an island disconnected from other global content. Still, some investors, including Trump’s former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and billionaire Frank McCourt, have expressed interest in purchasing the platform. Both men said earlier this year that they were launching a consortium to purchase TikTok’s U.S. business. This week, a spokesperson for McCourt’s Project Liberty initiative, which aims to protect online privacy, said unnamed participants in their bid have made informal commitments of more than $20 billion in capital.Maintenance Repair Operations (MRO) For Automation Solutions Market size to increase by USD 53.29 Billion between 2023 to 2028, Market Segmentation by End-user, Type, Geography, Technavio

Fantasy Football is all about the matchups. Even though you drafted your team with certain hopes and intentions, your weekly lineup decisions shouldn't be determined by the order you picked your players in. You need to check who your players play and make sure you've got the right guys in -- and the wrong guys out. It's too early to be absolutely sure which matchups will be easy and which ones will be tough, but we can take some educated guesses based on healthy personnel, defensive schemes, track records, and key details of offenses. The things we know can help us minimize the impact of the things we don't know. This should lead to better decisions being made. We'll go through every game and highlight the players who aren't obvious starts and sits (because you don't need to be told to start Derrick Henry ). You should feel more comfortable starting or sitting players based on the information given, and feeling comfortable with your Fantasy lineup before the games start is the best feeling in the world. New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin agreed to a record-setting eight-year, $92 million contract on Friday, according to multiple reports. Shesterkin's deal, which averages $11.5 million annually and runs through the 2032-33 season, is the largest ever for a goaltender. The previous high was an eight-year, $84 million deal ($10.5 million average) that Carey Price signed with the Montreal Canadiens in 2017. Shesterkin, who won the Vezina Trophy as the top netminder for the 2021-22 season, turned down an eight-year, $88 million offer just prior to the start of this season. He is making $5.66 million in 2023-24 in the final season of a four-year, $22.67 million contract. The Moscow native finished third in Hart Trophy (MVP) balloting during his stellar 2021-22 season in when he went 36-13-4 and led the NHL with both a 2.07 goals-against average and .935 save percentage. Shesterkin, who turns 29 on Dec. 30, has won 36 or more games in each of the past three regular seasons. But this season, he is just 8-9-1 with a personal-worst 3.05 GAA in 18 games this season. His .908 save percentage is also his worst. Overall, Shesterkin is 143-68-18 with a 2.48 GAA and .920 save percentage in 231 appearances (226 starts) over six seasons. In the postseason, he is 23-20-0 with a 2.41 GAA and .928 save percentage. Reports of the deal began circulating shortly after the Rangers traded captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks. That freed up money for next season as Trouba was in the sixth season of a seven-year, $56 million deal. Boyd scores 22 in Charleston's 79-64 win against Northern KentuckyWhen pro-European forces won in Moldova in November, their victory only passed by the slimmest of margins. A concerted Russian influence campaign was potentially behind it. A new government has formed in Moldova. Re-elected in early November, the pro-European President Maia Sandu has replaced only the ministers in charge of Interior, Agriculture and Infrastructure. Interior Minister Adrian Efros had earlier announced his resignation after it emerged that Moscow had used activists and hackers to interfere in the elections. In the summer, Maia Sandu's lead looked confident and everyone expected a strong Yes vote in the EU accession referendum. In both cases, the margin of victory for the pro-Western forces was tiny. Most young people in Moldova align themselves with Europe, but why then did 49% of the population vote against the EU? International observers say the answer lies in Russia and its annexed state, the breakaway Transnistrian republic. The border dividing Moldova into two parts is not recognised by the international community, yet it has stood for 34 years. The Transnistrian Republic has its own currency, number plates and, of course, flag. In the capital Tiraspol, time has stood still since the break-up of the Soviet Union. The monochrome of Lenin and Marx monuments is broken only by a statue of Harry Potter. 2,000 Russian soldiers stationed Transnistria ensure that things are done according to Moscow's wishes. That is why, in this part of Moldova, Russia's invasion of Ukraine can only be referred to as a defensive war or a special military operation. Those who express opposition to the war often find themselves behind bars. This is what happened to Viktor Plescanov, the country's best-known political prisoner. In 2022, the 50-year-old engineer hung a Ukrainian flag on his terrace and posted "Freedom for Ukraine" on his social media, only to be confronted by the authorities shortly afterwards. In September 2022, he was sentenced to three years and two months in prison without trial on terrorism charges. "The conditions in prison were hellish. It was like the 19th century. This is not Europe," explained Viktor, who at one point gave up and attempted suicide. He also showed on his arm exactly where he had tried to slit his wrists. Meanwhile, his wife, Oxana went from embassy to embassy recruiting supporters and telling Viktor Plescanov's story to the world. Eventually, under pressure from the OSCE and the US Ambassador in Chisinau, the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnozelsky pardoned Plescanov. But dozens of political prisoners remain in Tiraspol jails. This could be a serious obstacle to Moldova's EU accession, because if Moldovans were to join the integration process, Russian and Ukrainian separatists would come with them, something Brussels would prefer to avoid.

Ayushman card process remains stalledPUSH AND PULL The “Unfortunate Tetrahedron”—representing the complex interplay of energy affordability, reliability, modernity, and sustainability that the Philippines has to grapple with. —Contributed graphic MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ energy landscape stands at a critical juncture, grappling with what I call the “Unfortunate Tetrahedron”—the complex interplay of energy affordability, reliability, modernity, and sustainability. Recent events have thrown these challenges into sharp relief, underscoring the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to our energy future. Imagine a tetrahedron, a three-dimensional shape with four corners, each representing a crucial aspect of our energy system: affordability, reliability, sustainability, and modernity. This conceptual framework illustrates the difficult balancing act we face in energy planning. Improving one corner often affects the others, and navigating these dynamics requires careful, strategic decisions. Consider the recent crisis on April 16, 2024, when the Luzon grid was placed under red alert. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines reported that 19 power plants simultaneously shut down, with three others operating at reduced capacity. This led to a precarious situation where available capacity (13,537 MW) barely exceeded peak demand (13,024 MW). This event highlighted the fragility of our current energy system and the consequences of neglecting any corner of the tetrahedron. The April 16 incident underscores the challenge of maintaining a reliable grid while pushing for greener, more sustainable energy sources. As we aim for 50 percent renewable energy by 2040 as outlined in the Department of Energy’s Philippine Energy Plan, we must ensure our grid remains resilient. The failure of multiple power plants highlights the need for infrastructure that can support the intermittency of renewable energy sources while ensuring grid stability. The Center for Energy Research and Policy has rightly called for stricter regulation and thorough investigation into the causes of this incident. As part of this think tank, I emphasize the importance of accountability in the energy sector, advocating for the Energy Regulatory Commission to enforce stricter standards and consider penalties for noncompliance. This ensures that as we move toward sustainability, we do not compromise the reliability of our energy systems. Building a technologically advanced grid—through smart grids, energy storage, and advanced monitoring systems—requires substantial investments. Yet, events like the April crisis underscore the even higher cost of inaction. Short-term fixes, such as Meralco’s Interruptible Load Program (ILP), where large consumers like shopping malls switch to their own generators during peak demand, may help in emergencies. However, they are not sustainable long-term solutions. We need to invest in more robust, flexible systems that can handle the variability of renewable sources and the changing patterns of electricity use. The path to modernization must be balanced with affordability. The implementation of advanced technologies will drive up initial costs, but the long-term benefits—such as reduced grid instability and increased energy efficiency—far outweigh the immediate expenses. It is a necessary investment in the future resilience of our energy infrastructure. To navigate this complex energy landscape, we must prioritize flexibility in our energy systems. This includes: These solutions, while requiring substantial investments, are crucial for creating a resilient energy system capable of supporting both renewable integration and the growing demands of an electrified future. Moreover, this energy transition cannot be achieved in isolation. It demands unprecedented collaboration across sectors—government, industry, academia, financial institutions, and civil society. Together, we can build an energy system that is cleaner, more reliable, and capable of supporting the Philippines’ economic growth while improving the quality of life for all Filipinos. The recent Luzon grid crisis serves as a wake-up call. It highlights the need for transparency, accountability, and proactive planning in our energy sector. As we move forward, we must harness the power of this energy nexus—the intersection of technology, policy, and sustainability—to build a brighter, more resilient future for the Philippines. Our journey through the “Unfortunate Tetrahedron” will not be easy, but with careful planning, investment, and collaboration, we can create an energy landscape that serves all Filipinos today and for generations to come. Big Central Conference: United Gold All-Division football teams, 2024NoneThe Chicago Bears are 4-6 going into their Week 12 matchup as 3.5-point home dogs against the 8-2 Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 6-4 at Soldier Field over the last 10 years, and 5-5 against the spread. The Vikings are one of the best teams in the NFL against the spread with a record of 7-3. However, they've only covered three of their five road games. Over their last four games, the Vikings have looked beatable. They lost to the Los Angeles Rams by 10, beat the Indianapolis Colts by eight, beat the Jacksonville Jaguars by five, and beat the Tennessee Titans by 10. In that same stretch, quarterback Sam Darnold has thrown for seven touchdowns against five interceptions. Bears On Tap talked through the Vikings' roster and how the Bears could attack them. Before the season kicked off, we spoke with Arif Hasan , the Chief Writer for WideLeft.Football, about the Vikings' strengths, weaknesses, and how the Bears should attack their roster. Both episodes are available on YouTube , Apple , and Spotify . Our conversations led to these concepts for the Bears' victory on Sunday. 3. Let Playmakers (Specifically DJ Moore) Make Plays Last week, the Bears got the ball to DJ Moore in space and let him work. That resulted in one of his more efficient games of the season, catching all seven targets for 8.9 yards per target . When the Bears let Moore work in space, it makes Caleb Williams and the entire offense's lives easier. It creates more space for Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet to capitalize on. Moore is arguably the best offensive player on the team. Get him the football and let him make plays. Last season, Moore caught 16 of 21 targets for 165 yards in two games against the Vikings. That stat line included a lot of screen passes and short-game targets to make him a ball carrier with numbers in space. While a return of the Luke Getsy "screen them to death" isn't ideal for Chicago, it's not a reason to throw away the entire game plan. Take some of what worked against the Vikings last year and use it with a new quarterback with a much quicker release. 2. Manage the Blitz ANDREW VAN GINKEL DOES IT AGAIN #skol #vikings pic.twitter.com/UV1ZgVPiim Against a Brian Flores defense, the blitz will get home at times. It's inevitable. Caleb Williams is going to take some hits in this game. No matter who the Vikings play on a week-to-week basis, their ability to hit the passer is constant. The key for the Bears will be managing the Vikings' attacking fronts and limiting the damage. The Vikings blitz more than any other NFL team at a rate of 37.7%. They also pressure the quarterback more than any other NFL team, impacting the passer on 29.6% of dropbacks. It's not just pressure though. The Vikings have generated three or more sacks in eight of ten games this season. Expect to see the Vikings attack heavily up the middle. If they bring more pressure from the outside, Williams should be able to manage the situation. It'll be a tall task for the Bears' interior blockers and running backs to keep the interior protection strong against A-gap pressures and interior stunts. Meanwhile, it'll be on Williams to process pre-snap as well as post-snap to manage the situation and get the football out when the Vikings bring the heat. Flores will throw him plenty of change-ups to force errors. 1 . Caleb Williams Needs to Play Chess with Brian Flores Brian Flores might be the most difficult defensive coordinator in the NFL to gameplan against. He doesn't want to play chess with the opposing play-caller , he wants to play chess with the opposing quarterback. Flores will force opposing quarterbacks to address what the defense is showing. Quarterbacks who can read what the defense is showing pre-snap, process what they can get into post-snap, and execute on those answers have a chance against Flores. On Sunday, Williams needs to prove he can process at a high level for the Bears to win. Within that, he'll need to find outside-the-box answers at times. One thing that can break Flores' defense is timely athletic playmaking. If Williams leans on his playmaking abilities too heavily though, it'll likely end in mistakes against the exotic fronts and shifts that the Vikings rely on. Balance is key here, between winning in structure and outside of structure. Bears Players to Watch DJ Moore: Moore's ability to make plays after the catch will be important for the Bears to beat the blitz and generate chunk gains. Kevin Byard : The Bears should align safety help over Justin Jefferson at all times, especially because Jaylon Johnson had issues following Jefferson in the slot in the past. Byard will be the key to limiting Jefferson, who is the best receiver in football. Gervon Dexter Sr: The Bears need to stop the run to force the Vikings out of their play-action comfort zone. Sam Darnold is a different quarterback in a true dropback offense. Dexter's presence and ability to be a difference-maker in the run game will be paramount for the Bears' defense. 747 jili games Multiple Trump Cabinet Nominees Brutally Targeted with 'Bomb Threats' and 'Swatting Attacks' Share This article The Trump-Vance transition team is reporting that several of President-elect Trump's choices to help lead the country have been brutally targeted and threatened over the past 24 hours. "Last night and this morning, several of President Trump's Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them. These attacks ranged from bomb threats to 'swatting.' In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted. President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action," Trump-Vance Transition Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. A swatting attack involves a perpetrator issuing a fake call to emergency services that results in large numbers of armed police officers being dispatched to a target's address. It's intended to harass and terrify the victim. Among those targeted were New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, Trump’s pick to serve as the next ambassador to the United Nations; Matt Gaetz, Trump’s initial pick to serve as attorney general who has withdrawn from consideration; and former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin, who has been tapped to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin said in a social media post that he and his family had been threatened. “A pipe bomb threat targeting me and my family at our home today was sent in with a pro-Palestinian themed message,” he wrote on X. The New York Democrat is calling on the Department of Homeland Security to immediately deploy special technology that identifies and tracks drones back to their landing spots, according to briefings from his office. Schumer’s calls come amid growing public concern that the federal government hasn’t offered clear explanations as to who is operating the drones, and has not stopped them. National security officials have said the drones don’t appear to be a sign of foreign interference. “There’s a lot of us who are pretty frustrated right now,” said Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, on Fox News Sunday. “The answer ‘We don’t know’ is not a good enough answer.” President-elect Donald Trump posted on social media last week: “Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so. Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down.” Certain agencies within the Department of Homeland Security have the power to “incapacitate” drones, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. “But we need those authorities expanded,” he said, without saying exactly how. The drones don’t appear to be linked to foreign governments, Mayorkas said. “We know of no foreign involvement with respect to the sightings in the Northeast. And we are vigilant in investigating this matter,” Mayorkas said. Last year, federal aviation rules began requiring certain drones to broadcast their identities. It’s not clear whether that information has been used to determine who is operating the drones swarming locations in New York and New Jersey. Mayorkas’ office didn’t immediately respond to questions about whether they’ve been able to identify drones using this capability. Schumer is calling for recently declassified radar technology to be used to help determine whether an object is a drone or a bird, identify its electronic registration, and follow it back to its landing place. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Sunday said federal officials were sending a drone detection system to the state. “This system will support state and federal law enforcement in their investigations,” Hochul said in a statement. The governor did not immediately provide additional details including where they system will be deployed. Dozens of mysterious nighttime flights started last month over New Jersey, raising concerns among residents and officials. Part of the worry stems from the flying objects initially being spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility and over Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use, but they are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Copyright 2024 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed without permission. AMES, Iowa — Rocco Becht threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and No. 17 Iowa State's defense came up with big stops in the second half to help the Cyclones beat Kansas State 29-21 on Saturday night for the first 10-win season in program history. Iowa State (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten, No. 18 CFP) needed BYU to beat Houston on Saturday night to secure a spot in next week's conference championship game against Arizona State. Becht’s first touchdown pass, a 15-yarder to Jayden Higgins, came after Myles Purchase recovered Avery Johnson’s errant pitch on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Becht’s 9-yard TD pass to Jaylin Noel came after Joey Petersen picked up Keagan Johnson’s fumble. Noel went over 1,000 yards receiving for the season with the catch. Becht's 5-yard run put the Cyclones up 24-14 at half. A safety and Kyle Konrardy’s 20-yard field goal gave Iowa State an eight-point lead in the middle of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats (8-4, 5-4, No. 24 CFP) turned over the ball on downs at the Cyclones’ 35 when a pass went off Garrett Oakley’s hands on a fourth-and-2 with 4:59 left. They got the ball back for a final possession with no timeouts and 1:11 left when Kyle Konrardy missed what would have been a game-clinching 37-yard field goal. K-State went nowhere, with Avery Johnson knocked out of the game on third down and Ta’Quan Roberson throwing incomplete on fourth-and-15. Becht took a knee, and the fans poured out of the stands to celebrate with the Cyclones on the field. He threw for 220 yards and ran for 64 on 13 carries, and Brown caught three balls for 106 yards. The Cyclones made a huge stop earlier in the third after DJ Giddens’s 36-yard run set up K-State inside the 5-yard line. They kept the Wildcats out of the end zone, and then Darien Porter blew through the right side of the line to block Chris Tennant’s 21-yard field-goal try. The defense recorded a safety when Jacob Ellis chased Avery Johnson into his own end zone. Johnson desperately unloaded the ball and was called for intentional grounding. The Takeaway Kansas State: The Wildcats failed to play spoiler after finding out their chances at potentially making the Big 12 championship game were squashed earlier in the day. Their two turnovers, having a field goal blocked, giving up a safety and failing to convert two fourth-and-2s hurt. By DAVID A. LIEB Artificial intelligence. Abortion. Guns. Marijuana. Minimum wages. Name a hot topic, and chances are good there’s a new law about it taking effect in 2025 in one state or another. Many of the laws launching in January are a result of legislation passed this year. Others stem from ballot measures approved by voters. Some face legal challenges. Here’s a look at some of the most notable state laws taking effect: California, home to Hollywood and some of the largest technology companies, is seeking to rein in the artificial intelligence industry and put some parameters around social media stars. New laws seek to prevent the use of digital replicas of Hollywood actors and performers without permission and allow the estates of dead performers to sue over unauthorized AI use. Parents who profit from social media posts featuring their children will be required to set aside some earnings for their young influencers. A new law also allows children to sue their parents for failing to do so. New social media restrictions in several states face court challenges. But enforcement is being delayed because of a lawsuit filed by two associations for online companies, with a hearing scheduled for late February. A new Tennessee law also requires parental consent for minors to open accounts on social media. NetChoice, an industry group for online businesses, is challenging the law. Another new state law requires porn websites to verify that visitors are at least 18 years old. But the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult entertainment industry, has filed a challenge. Several new California measures aimed at combating political deepfakes are also being challenged, including one requiring large social media platforms to remove deceptive content related to elections and another allowing any individual to sue for damages over the use of AI to create fabricated images or videos in political ads . In a first nationally, California will start enforcing a law prohibiting school districts from adopting policies that require staff to notify parents if their children change their gender identification . The law was a priority for Democratic lawmakers who wanted to halt such policies passed by several districts. Many states have passed laws limiting or protecting abortion rights since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a nationwide right to the procedure in 2022. One of the latest is the Democratic-led state of Delaware. A law there will require the state employee health plan and Medicaid plans for lower-income residents to cover abortions with no deductible , copayments or other cost-sharing requirements. A new Minnesota law prohibits guns with “binary triggers” that allow for more rapid fire, causing a weapon to fire one round when the trigger is pulled and another when it is released. In Delaware, a law adds colleges and universities to a list of school zones where guns are prohibited, with exceptions for those working in their official capacity such as law officers and commissioned security guards. Kentucky is becoming the latest state to let people use marijuana for medical purposes . To apply for a state medical cannabis card, people must get written certification from a medical provider of a qualifying condition, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, epilepsy, chronic nausea or post-traumatic stress disorder. Nearly four-fifths of U.S. states have now legalized medical marijuana. Minimum wage workers in more than 20 states are due to receive raises in January. The highest minimum wages will be in Washington, California and Connecticut, all of which will top $16 an hour after modest increases. The largest increases are scheduled in Delaware, where the minimum wage will rise by $1.75 to $15 an hour, and in Nebraska, where a ballot measure approved by voters in 2022 will add $1.50 to the current minimum of $12 an hour. Twenty other states still follow the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. In Oregon, using drugs on public transit will be considered a misdemeanor crime of interfering with public transportation. While the measure worked its way through the legislature, multiple transportation officials said drug use on buses and trains, and at transit stops and stations, was making passengers and drivers feel less safe. In Missouri, law enforcement officers have spent the past 16 months issuing warnings to motorists that handheld cellphone use is illegal. Starting with the new year, penalties will kick in: a $150 fine for the first violation, progressing to $500 for third and subsequent offenses and up to 15 years imprisonment if a driver using a cellphone cause an injury or death. But police must notice a primary violation, such as speeding or weaving across lanes, to cite motorists for violating the cellphone law. Montana is the only state that hasn’t banned texting while driving , according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Tenants in Arizona will no longer have to pay tax on their monthly rent , thanks to the repeal of a law that had allowed cities and towns to impose such taxes. While a victory for renters, the new law is a financial loss for governments. An analysis by Arizona’s nonpartisan Joint Legislative Budget Committee estimated that $230 million would be lost in municipal tax revenue during the first full fiscal year of implementation. Meanwhile Alabama will offer tax credits to businesses that help employees with child care costs. Kansas is eliminating its 2% sales tax on groceries. It also is cutting individual income taxes by dropping the top tax rate, increasing a credit for child care expenses and exempting all Social Security income from taxes, among other things. Taxpayers are expected to save about $320 million a year going forward. An Oklahoma law expands voting privileges to people who have been convicted of felonies but had their sentences discharged or commuted, including commutations for crimes that have been reclassified from felonies to misdemeanors. Former state Sen. George Young, an Oklahoma City Democrat, carried the bill in the Senate. “I think it’s very important that people who have gone through trials and tribulations in their life, that we have a system that brings them back and allows them to participate as contributing citizens,” Young said. Commonwealth Fusion Systems, a startup that was spun out of a project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s research labs, announced plans this week to break ground on what it calls “the world’s first grid-scale fusion power plant.” The plant which is expected to come online sometime in the early 2030s, according to the company , will be built in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The plan is certainly an ambitious one, starting with how the energy will be generated. Nuclear fusion is a notoriously difficult process that involves fusing together two light atomic nuclei into a single heavier one, resulting in the release of a massive amount of energy—it’s estimated to produce four times as much energy as nuclear fission reactions. The reaction that nuclear fusion generates is the same kind of reaction that powers the sun. It’s not hard to imagine why one would want to be able to harness the energy of the sun. It is hard to actually, ya know, do that, though. To date, nuclear fusion has proven elusive—at least in a way that would produce usable energy. In 2022, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California reached nuclear fusion “ignition” for the first time, meaning they successfully produced an excess of energy from the reactions. Prior to that breakthrough, which has since been replicated , it took more energy to produce the reaction than energy that came from it. Commonwealth Fusion Systems has not yet accomplished the feat of producing excess energy, per Futurism . In fact, the company has yet to finish construction on its smaller reactor which was designed to serve as a proof of concept for a larger future plant. That project will continue, but it seems that the startup has decided to start working ahead under the assumption that everything will work out rather than check the boxes first. The company is promising that once this larger reactor goes online in Virginia, it will produce 400 megawatts of electricity—enough to power about 150,000 homes. That would be great! It also seems a bit ambitious based on the 0 megawatts currently generated from the process. There is a reason nuclear fusion has proven so elusive thus far, but maybe now that the seal has been broken on ignition, the developments in space will come in fast and steady. With a reported $2 billion in funding behind it already, Commonwealth Fusion Systems has as good a shot as anyone of figuring it out. And if it can’t, maybe it can figure out a way to harness energy from burning through all that cash.48 jili casino

After three losses this year by a combined eight points, Northwestern has found the finishing touch, winning three straight games, all against power conference teams. Northwestern (9-3) tries to extend its streak Sunday in Evanston, Ill., when it takes on Northeastern (8-4) in the final nonconference game for each team. Making a difference recently for the Wildcats has been their defensive pressure and care of the ball. During the Wildcats' three-game run, which included a 70-66 win in overtime against then-No. 19 Illinois, they forced 45 turnovers while committing just 18. That translates to a 43-16 edge in points off the mistakes. "That's something we've really talked about as a team," Northwestern coach Chris Collins said after an 84-64 win over DePaul on Dec. 21. "We're a really good defensive team and we need to turn some of those live-ball turnovers, so points can come a little easier." Brooks Barnhizer has done a little bit of everything during the Wildcats' mini-streak, averaging 19.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 3.3 assists and 2.7 blocks. Nick Martinelli has continued to excel with his rare skill set, combining crafty work in the paint with his expanded range from the perimeter. The left-hander has averaged 22 points in the last three games. For the year, Martinelli has hit 14 of 25 shots (56 percent) from beyond the arc. For Northeastern of the Coastal Athletic Association, this is the only game on its schedule against a power conference team. In 19 seasons under coach Bill Coen, Northeastern has pulled off nine victories over major conference foes. With an all-junior starting lineup, the Huskies are off to their best start since the 2015-16 season. Northeastern is led by guards Rashad King, who averages 17.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, and Harold Woods, who puts up 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Considering both are perimeter players, the rebounding numbers are extraordinary, especially for the 6-foot-5 Woods. "He hunts for those offensive rebounds and the tight spaces where he can finish behind the defense," Coen said. "And he works on that daily." This is the first meeting of the teams since 1993. The Wildcats hold a 3-1 edge in the series. --Field Level MediaAldebaran Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS:ADBRF) Short Interest Down 79.7% in December
